Ludo rules: our tutorial reference

Know which rules an explanation assumes.

Reference variant

For detailed tutorials, this site adopts the published UKLL casual rules as a learning baseline, checked 16 October 2026. This is a named reference, not a universal Indian rulebook.

Entry and movement

A six enters a token at its starting point. Move an active token by the full roll. Six earns another roll; the third consecutive six is void and ends the turn. A capture or finish resets that count.

Captures and stacks

A single exposed opponent is returned to base on landing, earning another roll. On an ordinary shared space, two or more same-colour tokens form a protected stack opponents cannot land on.

Finishing

Completing a token grants another roll; the first player to finish all four wins.

Where to go next

See the Safe Squares and Home guides for the remaining parts of this baseline. Before a real game, confirm entry, safety, stacks, bonus rolls and finishing against the instructions your group selected.
